This phase relates to the planning and analysis of the scenario pertaining to the development of the solar water heating unit. The acquisition of the resources and the planning of their implementation as well as execution is planned with the participation being witnessed from various teams that have been developed for managing the various aspects of this project. This is one of the most important stages in the project's management as the foundations for the project are established during this stage.
Accommodation:
The successful establishment of the project requires the presence of human resource which ensures the effective execution of all the stages. These human resources have to be provided adequate accommodation facilities during the project's development and also when the facility is brought into operational usage.
Training:
Solar technology is a relatively new development in renewable technology which is being utilized on a commercial scale. The personnel need to be provided with adequate training programs by means of which they would be enabled to operate the implemented technologies in keeping with the specifications of the respective equipment.
Implementation and Testing:
This is the actual implementation of the project where the phases are executed as per the plans designed for the respective stages. Moreover this stage is witnessed with the monitoring as well as testing of the implemented systems by means of which the effectiveness of the required systems is assured. The testing phase also helps to identify any weaknesses in the system which may amplify during operational utilization of the facility.
The detailed WBS for the project is provided below:
Project:
1. Project Definition:
In this the exact scope of the project would be defined with the identification of the stakeholders to the project being evaluated on the basis of their involvement in the decisions taken for the project. On the basis of the scope defined, the specific parameters for the solar technology and the output expected from the facility will be determined.
2. Financial Approval:
This stage marks the convincing of the investors and the obtaining of the approval for the financial aid required for the various stages of the project. In keeping with the size of the project, the financial input would be obtained in parts on the basis of the current stage being worked upon. The investors need to be provided with an accurate review of the current as well as future stage so as to ensure the inflow of funds to the project.
3. Purchase of Required Technology for Photovoltaic System:
The technology for the commercial implementation of the Photovoltaic system is not readily available in the market and has to be obtained prior to the commencement of the activities. The photovoltaic system consists of various components which need to be acquired and assembled.
4. Purchase of Required Technology for Solar Water Heating System:
The technology for the commercial implementation of the Photovoltaic system is not readily available in the market and has to be obtained prior to the commencement of the activities. The photovoltaic system consists of various components which need to be acquired and assembled.
5. Creation of Project Team:
The project team would comprise of various teams which would be focused on the achievement of specific objectives related to the project. Each team for this project would comprise of experienced as well as relatively fresh team members so that a more comprehensive outlook may be concluded for the project's activities.
6. Reviewing of Requirements:
The requirements need to be constantly reviewed so as to eliminate the acquisition of unnecessary components or such components whose functions can be reciprocated with the help of combined units. Moreover the teams may identify additional needs to fulfill certain aspects of the project which was not identified earlier. Hence the reviewing of the requirements prior to the commencement of the project is required.
7. Post Implementation Review:
Post implementation review would require the conduction of quality and efficiency checks so as to adhere to the plan. Any discrepancy if evident would be verified and provided with remedial measures so as to ensure the operation of the implemented technology as per expectations.
Accommodation:
The accommodation would require two stages to be considered. The first stage would require the accommodation being provided to the project team and human resource during the development of the project. This would require accommodation being made for the workers as well as the management team on site by means of which they may have a workspace for carrying out their activities efficiently.
The second stage would involve the creation of accommodation for the human resource on completion of the project wherein the personnel may carry out their operations and they are also provided the means to conduct regular operations on site. This would require the creation of offices and the provision of furniture and infrastructure which would be capable of providing a sound work environment.
Training:
Training is a crucial component of the project wherein the personnel need to be trained in the operational usage of the systems and technologies of the two solar technologies implemented in the project. They have a specific functioning capacity and any adversities which may pose themselves would have to be dealt on the basis of the intricate understanding of the systems. Moreover they also need to be trained in the methods by which the desired outcomes can be achieved.
Implementation and Testing:
This would see the implementation of the photovoltaic system and the solar water heating system at the site. The voltaic cells are usually installed on leveraged areas such as roof tops while the solar panels for water heating are installed on the grounds. For this the site needs to be prepared to accommodate these technologies as per their specifications. Periodic monitoring would be conducted on a weekly basis for the individual systems and a 2 monthly evaluation would be conducted for the entire facility. This would require the measurement of the actual production data with the estimated statistics defined by the project's management.
Project Team Formation:
The project will see the participation of various teams which would be endowed with the responsibility of managing the various aspects of the project. The teams would be as follows:
Project Management Team:
This team would be provided with the responsibility of managing the overall aspects of the project with the responsibility of communicating the progress of the project to the stakeholders.
Technical Team:
This team would only be concerned with the technical aspects of the project wherein they would determine the manner of implementation in accordance with the specifications of the respective components.
Resource Management Team:
This team would have the responsibility of monitoring the resources required for the project and would also control the utilization of the resources by providing approval for the withdrawal of the resources as per the requirement generated during the current stage of the project.
Finance Team:
This team would conduct the financial feasibility of the project and would ensure the inflow of funds to the project as per the requirement generated during the current stage of the project.
Operations Team:
During the development of the project, the operations team would be responsible for determining the day to day activities to be undertaken and they would also be required to plan the utilization of the resources on a daily basis. Moreover they would be required to ensure that the progress of the project is going as per the defined project plan.
Monitoring Team:
This team would be provided with the specific task of undertaking monitoring of the various aspects of the project by means of which any discrepancies may be eliminated from the facility. This would also be beneficial in maintaining the quality of the project's deliverables.
