After we had a details and informative interview with the person who in charge and manage the network in Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, they had also provided with their current company network diagram and infrastructure status. We also get know their network security policies and solution though out the process of interviewing them.

-Network Design

During the interview session, basically we had been went through Gas Malaysia's Sdn Bhd Network& Server room and pay a visit on it. We get to know they currently having a TmNet 2Mbps direct lease line with another 1Mbps ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) with a configured 4 Port Ascenlink Load Balancer as Multi Homing Device, their purpose of setting up load balancer was to get use and compile all 3 Mpbs Bandwidth and enforce their performance. This solution can be declared as a Multi Homing Solution network setup.

Beside, Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd Consist of several applications and server attached together with their network infrastructure. Servers that installed are DMZ server, E Mail system server, Web server and internet applications server.

Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd currently is using Bus topology design in their network, due to large quantity of client and users who using and sharing their network in the office department. Estimate client and users that stay on Gas Malaysia Network will be around 500 Users.

Security features

1:- Check Point Firewall

Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd Using Check Point firewall hardware, purpose of using this security features will be filtering up the connectivity and data packets tranmission from inbound or outbound area. They configured certain firewall rules and policies that protected their network environment and hope to achieve safe and protecting company details. Information related to firewall policies that we gained during the interview with gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd is they currently using Check Point firewall to set a proxy gateway to control the internet connection and website surfing from the client and user.

Redundancy Plan and Solution

1:- Multi Homing Internet Solution

Gas Malaysia SDn Bhd network infrastructure been implemented by using Mutlti Homing Internet Solution, an internet link failed over connection redundancy plan. Support By Ascenlink Multi Homing Load Balancer device. The functionality of the load balancer is balance and divides up the total 3Mbps bandwidth for client usage. These consider an internet bandwidth back up and full usage of all capacity in a link.

Observation

During the interviewing session with Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, we made a visit to their existing server room and also office client and users site. We observed that they currently setting up the network client users site using bus topology design. 500 user's machine arranged in a proper and systematic way, it's a good implementation idea by their network administrator by setting up their client via bus topology because due to the large amount of users.

While on the other side, we also entered their server room after visiting their offices user site. Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd server room consist of their servers and network devices, their network administrator also labeled up each of their particular network devices and links using sticker. All devices arranged in a proper and systematic way.

Recommendation

Recommendation and suggestion that we can give towards Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd network infrastructure after had interview session with them are if they can put on more budget on their bandwidth capacity, I would like to suggest them by upgrading their bandwidth into a higher capacity. Besides, they also should be renewing their existing telephone back path cable and lines because their telephone line and system already installed on a long duration since they organized the factory.

Conclusion

We gained much more knowledge and experience regarding on the network infrastructure and live practical server and network devices issues after interviewed with Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd We also want to take this opportunity to thanks the Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd network Administrator and people in charge, Mr. Sharrifuddin and Mr Ng for providing the information and details about their network system for us as the references and root for completing this assignment.
