Comments about the seminars

When I rethink about my experience about the professional seminar, I am really pleased for the knowledge and experience I got from that course. What I most appreciate on the course is that it gives me practice of doing teamwork and good relationship with many friends. Also, the talks of the speakers are worth listening and give me a lot of knowledge. Among those six speakers, what I am most interested in is the speech of Mr. Heng who talks about the leadership skill and I think it is a necessary skill when we get to the work. Moreover, the moderation duty which I carried out in my last seminar class had fun a lot and I learned about the management of team before hand in accordance with situation. When I recall all of the events, I found myself having a good time working with my team members and I believe that all the course's activities will be remain as memorized events throughout the academic year.

Review on the seminar topics

In first seminar week, Professor Dr Paul Wu gave us a brief talk and introduced about the course expectation and aim. According to his speech, I became to realize that the aim of the course is to improve our intellectual discourse by creating social community and participating in discussion, forum and wiki. Moreover, the three presenters gave speeches about the role of library and information profession, role of knowledge manager and structure of digital library. Because of Mr Lambe's speech, I came to know the importance of the knowledge management course which I had been comment as a boring subject before. More than that, after the talks, the questions prompted by the students were also make me interest. Just before the class dismiss, the quiz games what the professor Paul gave us also made our group excited. Although we were not sharing on the discussing board regarding the two quizzes, there was contact with group mail to discuss about the puzzles. In this way, we were friendlier among group members.

Second seminar was discussing about Ethnic and Leadership skill which is very important in real world. In the morning session, I was absorbed in the speech of Mr. Heng who talked about how to become a good leader. I learnt from his talk is “Walk the talk” and “Wanting to make a difference” which are valuable messages to be a good leader. I think his speech is important to us because no one can say we will not become leader one day and so we should take into account of his speech and follow up if possible. When I listened to the afternoon speech, I became to notice and think about the risks of promotion according to the Prof. Cheong's talk. Before, I had been thought only in positive ways of raise in position without risk. I think, “Character before career, testimony before title” which is vital message for everyone we should practice when we get into the work.

In the last seminar, Mr. Lvan was talking about blog and librarian 2.0. That topic seems little far for me because I haven't been much participate and familiar with web 2.0, blog and so on. According to his speech, I became to interest about blogging and started to participate in the discussion board. When I started touching with discussion board, I noticed that there were a lot of topic the students already posted and discussed about the seminar talks. So, when I read through some interested topics and began to participate their discussions. I was pleased when someone made comments upon my idea and became to realize that sharing the idea on the blog is interested and different with what I thought about it before. Afternoon when our team performed moderation duty, it was a nice experience to be able to manage the other group. We made fun by arranging game instructed by our group moderator. I am certain that day will remind me as a memorized day in my life. Since that day was the last day of the course, we were not feeling well to apart with the friends in our group in spite of knowing each other for only a short time. Overall speaking, I had a good time with all of my group members.

Conclusion

To conclude, honestly speaking, it is the first experience for me to attend that kind of course like professional seminar. It is a great chance for me to meet with people who came from different countries and engaging many activities with those friendly group members. Also, among the courses that I take this semester, this course is a stress-free course achieving knowledge from great men, having fun, enjoying food and making good relationship with people, so on and so forth. Therefore, I do believe all of the other students will exactly have the same feeling with me and also, I really thank to our professor Dr. Paul who gave us the great opportunity like this.
