Introduction

John Thomas Chambers, the Cisco (Cisco Systems Incorporated) CEO, was given the Award for Internet Industry Leader by the Internet Council of the United States in 2000. In 1999, Chambers was addressed by the BusinessWeek as "Mr. Internet," among the most influential persons in the router business and among the top 25 senior managers in the world. As stated by BusinessWeek, Chambers was an unabashed radical changes’ evangelist in management (Waters, 2002). This CEO has made his corporation a living research laboratory for the twenty-first-century company. The time observers articulate a progressive, new business model for the modern era, they unsurprisingly put Cisco among the top listed companies. Under John Chambers, Cisco has developed into a leading player in the worldwide networking industry. Chambers led Cisco's triumphant diversification into the telecom and switch4 equipment business. He envisioned Cisco either as the market front runner or in the 2nd position, in each product market Cisco expand into became a challenge for most of the telecom and network companies were overvalued.

In the conclusion of 1999, Cisco stood as the market front runner in 80 percent the product markets it had, whereas, in the remaining 20 percent, it was number two. Chambers played a huge role in reinforcing Cisco’s marketing and sales efforts. He had a dream of converting Cisco to become an e-company. He devised a number of innovative programs to retain and recruit the best human resources existing in the IT business (Slater, 2002).Chambers also founded a performance-driven and customer-oriented, yet comfortable culture at Cisco.
